I was supposed to babysit today but, we have over a foot of snow at our house! C-R-A-Z-Y! I’m loving every sweet second of the snow magic.
Andrew worked for the better part of the day plowing at SAM’S but he’s home and resting on the couch, it’s actually quite adorable!
I love this photo! It captures the magic of that particular moment. I love our little house with it’s sweet lighting and fun colors. *sigh* And that man sleeping away is SO wonderful!
While he was gone I took on my very first ham, which is in the oven and smelling GREAT by the way, and I took a ton of photos. Here are a few from the snow today.
I think my favorite might be the wee cardinal. She was too lovely not to photography. I love days like this! I have a book and a cup of coffee calling my name! Happy Monday!
I just updated our Fox & Owl blog with some of the MOST amazing photos I’ve ever taken. Today my dad and I went up on the Parkway and found the most breathtaking scenes of nature. Holy smokes. I was blown away.
The snow came up to my knees in some places and I was bunny hopping around in it, making giant foot prints. We went about 5,000 feet up and it was probably 10 degrees and the wind was blowing. Can I tell you a secret?
I’m never more happy than when I’m out like that, freezing cold, camera in hand, with the reckless abandon of a child and the whole world in front of me!
Today was such a lovely day! We got to play in the snow, we found some great scores at a thrift store, and we had a nice dinner out.

Apparently the last one is my patented “okay, enough already” look. I wasn’t aware of that until he showed me that photo. How can anyone take me seriously?

Since I had SO much happen this year I thought it would be fun to do my very first year end review! I’m going to try to do it with one photo that sums up each month. We’ll see. Here goes!
In January I decided to make this blog. It started out being a 365 day project, with a photo a day, finding the beautiful. It started with this post and a photo of a pomegranate martini! Unfortunately the moment that summed up January for us was the loss of our beloved Auntie. Sad day, but her release from the pain was (is) a blessing. She was lovely.
In February I left my job as a Pre-K teacher to embark on a marketing journey. It was fun and it taught me a lot of what I do want and what I do not want in a job. Invaluable. And of course, the friends I made are irreplaceable and wonderful people! I also met me beloved. Over coffee, at Panacea. Of course. I was also published in Smoky Mountain Living magazine, for a photo I took on the parkway. Kind of a great month!
In March we contiuned to fall in love and go on adventures. Always on adventures! We took more photos than you can shake a stick at and enjoyed the last vestiges of snow.
In April we participated in TOMS “One Day Without Shoes” and went all day barefoot. At work, when Nathan got his hair cut, walking around the lake. It was a magical and humbling experience. Andrew also left for Africa that month. H-A-R-D. I blogged about a lot of emotional things that were going on in my life at that time. With my family and with my beloved being gone. Goodness, me. This image of Andrew from skype literally sums up how we spent our time apart from working. With each other.
In May I started art journaling. It was (is) one of the best ways to journal for me! I l-o-v-e it! It helped me document more personal aspects of Andrew being gone and hopes for the future. I love looking back at it, it’s so special! I also spent a lot more time in the woods. Mostly with my dad but also on clandestine meetings of my own making.
In June Andrew came home to me! Not only that, but we were engaged that month! Yippeeee!
In July we got MARRIED! It makes me blush a little!
In August we went on our honeymoon to Savannah, GA and we ended in my favorite Charleston, SC. We actually tied in with my parents in Charleston. Right? Who does that on their honeymoon? We do :] I also turned 24!
In September we fell more in love , if that is possible and adjusted more to married life. In celebration we got a new wee kitten! Angus!!
Oh! October! Andrew turned 25 and we started Fox & Owl Photography (now Fox & Owl Studio)! We were able to realize a dream that we’d had for a long time between the two of us, but even longer for me. I’ve always wanted to have a photography biz!
December was family love and Christmas. Our very first married Christmas which was also our anniversary. Can I tell you a secret? We decided on July because it’s not a big month, really. It’s not a birthday month for either of us and it’s not a big holiday month. We did that because we wanted our anniversary set apart from everything else. Little did we consider that the 24th is always Christmas Eve and sometimes Thanksgiving. Andrew whispered to me on Christmas Eve, “This might have been a GREAT idea!”. We’re just silly like that :]

Hiya from crazy weather NC mountains! It’s been snowy, sleety, icy, and now rainy. I’ve heard several complaints about it, but it just makes me giggle. My typical response to any given weather angst is “welcome to the mountains”. I was home bound again today because my cold is making a comeback and I’m determined to be well before any festivities. I listened to a lot of this (see video) song and I think I feel better because of it!
I have sooo many goals to reach before Christmas! I have like, what? 8 days or so? I’m PUMPED! Bring on the pressure! I have:
-to be completely not sick
-last minute shopping to attend to, one is with my Papa so we can get Andrew the perfect present. I can’t wait to see his face when he opens it! Eeeek!
-tons of baking to do and thank you’s to write.
– a lot of photos to edit and client packages to put together
-last minute handmade gifts for the party tomorrow night, honoring 3 Mimms family members
-laundry
-wrapping up loose ends at work
-share photos of Kelly’s present since I finished it last night and it’s precious
-etc
We also have a few business goals to reach for Fox & Owl Studio… I’ll let you know about those a little later. We’re so stoked for these dreams coming true!
Last night we spent some time with my brother in law, Dustin! It was a lot of fun. We ended up with Amos on Main Street climbing sculptures, slipping on ice, and checking out old stair cases. One of my favorite things to do with Andrew and Dustin is walk aimlessly and see what we can come up with. Sometimes it’s so nice not to have an agenda or a schedule. It gives you a chance to create, see new things… spend time with kids you love to death without anything to take away from the magic.
It’s so totally snowing again! And, I’m sick as a dog. I think it’s a cold, but one can never be sure when one works in my profession: pre-k teacher.
We’ve been enjoying the most beautiful sunsets in these mountains over the past few nights. I couldn’t help myself, I had to take a couple of shots of this one. Pink sunsets are my favorite!
Welcome to my front yard. This is the view off of our porch. You just have to look past the giant tulip poplar. I’m glad Andrew and I like tulip poplars, we’d be out of luck if we didn’t! These are just too gorgeous not to share. What is your favorite kind of sunset?
Andrew had to work today and since I was home I decided to revamp our website. I’m really excited to share it with you! Fox & Owl Studio now has a new face. We recently scored a vintage Polaroid camera from a thrift shop in our historic district. This shop is literally full of… stuff. You have to dig around but you find the most amazing things! It just made sense to include our new wee Polaroid in our site makeover! Can’t wait to hear what you guys think about it!
I’m ready for some hot tea and grilled cheese. Come on Zicam! Work your magic!
I’ve been working on our website and our blog! It’s been so much fun but it’s also taken a lot of my attention. When I’m not playing with the 2’s and 3’s or cleaning, I’m dedicated to the business. I think that we’re at a point where the site is pretty well established and blogging is just fun so that is no big :] It makes me so happy in my heart to be able to see this dream realized.
Especially with my beloved.
Wow!
Goodness, I’m sleepy and coming off of the break is really messing with my sleeping schedule. I’m a night owl by nature and am better suited to staying up till 1 or 2 and getting up around 9. Alas, a day job does not allow for a schedule such as that. Going on about 6 hours of sleep is okay for a couple of days but by tomorrow I’ll probably start to crash.I’m an 8 hours a night kind of girl. It keeps me pretty.
