Happy Last Day of 2010!

Just a quick note to say, Happy New Year! Enjoy your evening, friends!

Auld Lang Syne is one of my absolute favorite songs, but I love the entire poem by Robert Burns.

And here’s a hand, my trusty friend,
And gie’s a hand o’ thine;
We’ll take a cup o’ kindness yet
For auld lang syne

5 Favorite Things!

Ready for a new five favorites? I am!

1. Vintage paint by numbers! I love love love them!

2. Coffee. I can’t tell you how much coffee has gotten me through this super cold winter so far!

This is my dad’s percolator Jr. I took this photo when we were up on the parkway in early May last year. It was probably one of the better times we’ve had up there. And of course, we had Panacea coffee which our favorite local coffee shop/roasting company. Panacea has kept me happy and warm this season!

3. The snow!

4. I’m loving Danna Ray’s prints. They’re so elegant and simple, but I also feel like I’m right in the middle of the scene when I look at them. Magical! Here are a few of my favorites:

5.

Mr. Horton, Thanks for taking a crazy adventure with me in the snow and taking us around town to do donuts and fishtail in parking lots. You’re kinda my hero. xoxo

That was fun! Happy New Years eve eve!

Slush Jumping

As the snow was falling over Christmas Andrew and I went to Walmart for a bottle of wine and they were *gasp* closed! So we took to playing in the snow. We were the only people there. Not even joking. It was like the entire world was ours so what did we do? Slush jump! Slush is one of my great joys, while others hate it… loathe it actually, I like to play in it. It makes the most satisfying sound when you jump in it! Of course we had the camera and of course we documented every single delicious moment!  What is slush jumping you might ask? Well, I’ll show you!

That my friends, is slush jumping! I encourage you to give it a go if you have any available slush near you!

White Horton Christmas!

Hiya! I hope you guys had a lovely holiday! Andrew and I had our very first married Christmas and *drum roll* it was a WHITE one! I honestly can’t remember the last time we had a white Christmas in the mountains but, we got about 12 inches at our house. It was absolutely fantastic!

I’m so excited because we were able to keep with our family’s typical traditions and we were also able to carve out some of our own. We even watched a movie on Christmas morning – Fantastic Mr. Fox, Andrew got it for me!- I’m excited to see what next year will bring… hopefully we’ll be in CO. Here is some of our holiday in photos!

5 Favorite Things!

I’m just a wee bit late with my 5 favorite things post, so with out further ado here goes!

1. We don’t have cable at our house but one evening at a friend’s house I saw this commercial. Yes, it’s a commercial. BUT! It makes me chuckle out loud every single time I see it.  Favorite line: “Tissue? *throws tissue box* Cry baby.” Enjoy!

2. I’ve been wanting a new vehicle for about a year. I love Subaru. My very first car was a Subaru GL-10, an ’84. It was two years older than me, and the car that my grandmother would drive me around Brevard in. We would go to McDonalds and get chicken nuggets and honey… so many memories in that car. So, I thought, why not get another one? Well, because they are oh so dreadfully out of our price range. Wah wah. SO! I rallied and decided that I’d like one of these:

Yep, a Bronco II. My dad has one and I l-o-v-e  looove it!

3. I love Ashley G’s art on Etsy. She has the most lovely prints and I love her style of drawing. This one is my favorite! It reminds me of Andrew and I.

4. Our Treepod! I finally made some sweet decorations for it (popsicle stick snowflakes, glitter camera and owl) and we finally have gifts under it! Since Andrew and I love to go green we used old newspapers, masking tape and twine for our gift wrapping this year. Here is a little peek (from my cell phone camera)!

5. Dearest Love, thanks for taking silly cell phone pictures with me in the car while we wait on my brother. You rock my world for letting me snap picture after picture and maintaining your patience. P.s. Your toboggan is kinda hot, just sayin’.

There you go guys!  I’ll be adding a special Christmas edition later this week! Happy Christmas to you all, I hope you enjoy yours as much as we’ll enjoy ours.

xoxo. Shannon

Ps. Our 6 month anniversary is on Christmas Eve!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Eeeek!

Christmas Traditions

Since it’s Christmas time I wanted to share a few of my favorite Christmas time traditions.

One thing that I absolutely love to do is drive around and find Christmas lights! I love them, from tacky to spectacular. Though, not gonna lie, I think tacky is my favorite. We have a few super ghetto places in town that have the most hilarious lights all over the place. The great thing about it is that Andrew and I know a lot of those folks and they couldn’t be cooler people.

We also have a couple of famous stops around town for lights. The Biltmore House is quite a draw for lovely Christmas magic and so is the Grove Park Inn. One of my favorite things to do is check out the gingerbread houses at both places.

Another favorite Christmas tradition is to watch Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer. It’s one of my all time favorite movies, but I think it’s just because Yukon Cornelius is in it. He’s so much like my dad! I love love love him and his antics. My favorite quote from the movie is:
“Well, Im off to get my life-sustaining supplies of cornmeal, gunpowder, ham hocks and guitar strings.” I think the reason I love it so much is because my life sustaining supplies would consist of similar things. Sans ham hocks… maybe bacon instead ;]

Every year I always read my Christmas Mitford book. Mitford has been one of my favorite series since I was in high school. I’ve read them all at least 10 times. They’re just like going home, they sooth my spirit.

My mom and I make it a point to watch Love Actually while we bake something delicious each year too. We haven’t done that yet this year, but I’m thinking we’ll fix that tomorrow. I need a really really good baking fix and some mother daughter time before we get too crazy with Christmas festivities!

Well there you have it. A few of my absolute favorite Christmas traditions. Since it’s our first year of marriage Andrew and I are creating our own traditions, like our treepod! I’m so excited to make new memories this year with him!

Lunar Eclipse?!

What what?! There will be a total lunar eclipse tonight starting around 1am EST. I’m so pumped! We’re going to check it out, I love any excuse to stay up late on a work night, especially for something as awesome as an eclipse. Apparently it will mark the beginning of the winter solstice and the shortest day of the year.

Here is an artical from National Geographic if you’re interested in check it out in further detail!

Lovely Monday

Hiya! Oh, this Monday has been so so sweet. We’re going to a middle school chorus concert tonight. It’s been so long since I’ve been to anything like that, I can’t wait! I love the idea of middle school functions, this is my sister’s last year there. Bittersweet.

Yesterday Andrew and I had so much fun with our little Polaroid camera! I’m hoping to score more film, though it is becoming increasingly hard to come by. Andrew helped an old man clean out his house for a move and he gave us a garden bench for our house. People give you all kinds of great things when you’re newly married. Since we don’t have  a garden we decided our backyard would be a perfect place for the sweet little bench! It’s way up on the hill (thank God Andrew is strong) nestled against a wee tree. It’s perfect for reading and lounging! We decided to use it for some photos yesterday with Amos and the Polaroid. I wanted to share a peek of the magic with you!

Happy Monday! xoxo Shannon
