I was supposed to babysit today but, we have over a foot of snow at our house! C-R-A-Z-Y! I’m loving every sweet second of the snow magic.
Andrew worked for the better part of the day plowing at SAM’S but he’s home and resting on the couch, it’s actually quite adorable!
I love this photo! It captures the magic of that particular moment. I love our little house with it’s sweet lighting and fun colors. *sigh* And that man sleeping away is SO wonderful!
While he was gone I took on my very first ham, which is in the oven and smelling GREAT by the way, and I took a ton of photos. Here are a few from the snow today.
I think my favorite might be the wee cardinal. She was too lovely not to photography. I love days like this! I have a book and a cup of coffee calling my name! Happy Monday!

I just updated our Fox & Owl blog with some of the MOST amazing photos I’ve ever taken. Today my dad and I went up on the Parkway and found the most breathtaking scenes of nature. Holy smokes. I was blown away.
The snow came up to my knees in some places and I was bunny hopping around in it, making giant foot prints. We went about 5,000 feet up and it was probably 10 degrees and the wind was blowing. Can I tell you a secret?
I’m never more happy than when I’m out like that, freezing cold, camera in hand, with the reckless abandon of a child and the whole world in front of me!
Here is a peek from today!
Don’t forget to check out our F & O blog. The rest will go on Fox & Owl Studio!

Today was such a lovely day! We got to play in the snow, we found some great scores at a thrift store, and we had a nice dinner out.
Andrew got the camera this evening and took a few photos of me while we were playing around. I was enjoying some coffee and he was standing on a chair being silly. Here are the results:
Apparently the last one is my patented “okay, enough already” look. I wasn’t aware of that until he showed me that photo. How can anyone take me seriously?
Off to bed for some reading and snuggling. Don’t forget tomorrow is the LAST day to enter the Panacea giveaway! Just leave a comment and tell me where you love to enjoy coffee! Happy Thursday eve!

I’ve been making owls all the live long day and needed a bit of inspiration for a pattern I stumbled upon. When I was searching around online I found this:
It’s an albino peacock! How incredibly beautiful is it?! Since this one was SO gorgeous it led to other albino animal searches and led to these lovlies…
Then I thought, I wonder what an albino owl would look like…
Yep, black barn owl. Might be my favorite…so lovely.

Hiya! Oh, this Monday has been so so sweet. We’re going to a middle school chorus concert tonight. It’s been so long since I’ve been to anything like that, I can’t wait! I love the idea of middle school functions, this is my sister’s last year there. Bittersweet.
Yesterday Andrew and I had so much fun with our little Polaroid camera! I’m hoping to score more film, though it is becoming increasingly hard to come by. Andrew helped an old man clean out his house for a move and he gave us a garden bench for our house. People give you all kinds of great things when you’re newly married. Since we don’t have a garden we decided our backyard would be a perfect place for the sweet little bench! It’s way up on the hill (thank God Andrew is strong) nestled against a wee tree. It’s perfect for reading and lounging! We decided to use it for some photos yesterday with Amos and the Polaroid. I wanted to share a peek of the magic with you!
Happy Monday! xoxo Shannon

Woohoo! I’m so excited to show you guys how it turned out! Since it was for my sister I thought yellow and orange would be a good touch. She’s got a sunny disposition and it turned out to fit her perfectly! Without further ado here she is!
My favorite part is the eyes. They’re so doleful and kind. I also love the worn in look that it has, magical! I can’t wait to make more!

We had THE best time with the family last night for the birthday celebrations! We went to Bonefish Grill in Asheville for supper. It’s one of our favorite places to eat! They have an appetizer called Muscles Josephine that are out of this world. The sauce is something to marvel at… like you want to take a bath in it. It’s that good. Not even joking. We were so tickled because they put “Happy Birthday, Carl, Nathan & Kelly” on the specials menu (handed out to every table) which was such a lovely touch! Everyone was pumped. It felt like the whole place new we were coming in for a celebration and everyone wanted to join it. So great!
After we ate we ended up at my parent’s house for cake and presents! I know I’ve gone on and on about how I love to give gifts rather than be given them but last night was so magical. Everyone got what they wanted and then something they didn’t know they wanted but were so thrilled to receive anyway. You know that way? I love it!
Now, I want to share some photos with you. BUT I have to warn you… mom and I decorated the cake. Disclaimer: we’ve never been great at cake decoration… or cutting. When I was turning one my mom tried to cut my cake with dental floss to not mess up the decoration. Yeah. God love her, but it was a terrible idea. Just like us trying to decorate this cake. Kelly requested white with chocolate frosting. It says “Happy Bday Nay & Kelly”. It looks like this:
Right? At least it tasted good!! The baking thing we have down, at least mom and I can have that star to put on our crowns! Here are a few more favorite shots:
This one is my absolute favorite! Dad was trying to keep Kelly from blowing out the candles (we all give her a hard time in some way or another) and she’s trying to get around him and they’re all cracking up!
He looks like a creeper, on purpose. Yes, that is the owl I made sitting on the table!
Here she is! My very very first owl. Kelly loved it! I also made her a flower rose clip (on the owl’s ear). What do you guys think?
Nathan rocking the flower clip. It suits him ;]
Thanks for sharing this with me, friends! I’ll share more photos of the owl later. I’m so excited to show you how it turned out! Eeek!

In addition to my 5 favorite things (which will be weekly, probably on Wednesday) I’m adding another feature. Each week I’m going to try and find a photo to sum up my entire week. I doubt I’ll be able to find one theme from my week to be represented through one photo but for this week it’s super easy.
I’ve been horribly sick this week so this week’s photo has my survival kit in it, minus Andrew (since he was working when I took this). I had to take Dayquil/Nyquil, Puffs Plus with lotion, books, the couch (my mom’s currently since we’re snowed in), blankets, and coffee. It was tea. Let me tell you something about myself, I love coffee. I tried to have tea repeatedly but… I finally looked at Andrew (who has traveled everywhere and knows other cultures and their tea) and wailed, “I’m American! I don’t want tea I want coffee!” After a chuckle and endearing look he made me coffee.
So, there you have it! My week in a photo. I think this will be a fun project for me, it’s my goal to do this every Sunday!

Okay, friends! Here you go, photos and recipe as promised!
First, a few favorite shots from the preparation and baking! I love that my dad totally baked these while I licked the bowl and photographed the process. Kinda great!
And, they are SO good!
Here is your recipe:
Preheat your oven to 350
Melt in a saucepan:
1/4 cup of butter
Stir in until dissolved:
1 cup of brown sugar
4 oz semi-sweet baking chocolate (add more if desired)
Cool these ingredients and then blend in:
1 tsp of vanilla
Sift, then measure:
1/2 cup of all purpose flour
Resift it with:
1 tsp of baking powder
1/2 tsp of salt
Stir these into butter, sugar, and chocolate mixture and add walnuts or figs if desired.
Pour mixture into greased 9×9 pan and bake for 20 minutes. Pull them out and let them cool and go to town!
Let me know if you make them and if you l-to-the-ove them!
